Learn how Instructions shape what Notion Agent does, and how to write clear instructions đ§
GÄ till vanliga frÄgorInstructions tell your personal Notion Agent how to respond by default, including tone, formatting, and rules to follow.
Your Agent uses your active Instructions page in every chat.
You can only use one Instructions page at a time, but you can switch it anytime.
Use Instructions for things like tone, writing style, and rules you want Notion Agent to follow every time it takes an action or responds.
Use Instructions when your preference is:
Always-on: it should apply to every Notion Agent response, not just one task
Personal: it reflects your tone, style, or working norms
Low-maintenance: set it once and rarely need to change it
A simple rule of thumb is that if youâd correct the same Notion Agent behavior twice, add it to your Instructions.
Example use cases for Instructions
Setting a default tone (concise, friendly, formal)
Enforcing formatting rules (always use checklists for action items, always use headings)
Defining output structure (summaries under 5 bullets, always end with next steps)
Specifying context about your role or team (for example, "Iâm on the CX team; tailor responses accordingly")

Think of Instructions as your "default mode" that you want every AI response to follow.
Start with what you want, not what you donât want.
Be specific. If you have a formatting preference, describe it (for example, "use bullet points, not paragraphs").
Keep it short. You can always add more later.
Revisit your Instructions page periodically as your preferences evolve.
Because Instructions are pages, sharing works the same way it does for any other Notion page.
If you share your Instructions page, it does not automatically change anyone elseâs Notion Agent. They need to set it as their own Instructions.

How are Instructions different from Skills and Custom Agents?
How are Instructions different from Skills and Custom Agents?
Instructions are persistent preferences that apply to every Notion Agent response - your "default mode."
Skills are on-demand actions you trigger when you need them, for a specific task or selection.
Custom Agents are autonomous: they can run in the background, be triggered by events (like a schedule or a new page), and be shared with your team. Each Custom Agent has its own Instructions and connections.

Do my Notion Agent Instructions affect Custom Agents?
No. Your personal Instructions only apply to your Notion Agent. Custom Agents have their own Instructions defined inside each Custom Agent.
